Discover Upper Derwent Valley

The mix of moorland, wooded valleys and open water provides great bird and wildlife watching. Both easy and challenging walks offer fantastic views and insight into the area’s rich heritage.

Upper Derwent Valley Trails

The PDF map below highlights the most popular routes. You can find more walking routes on the OL1 Explorer OS map or by buying a guide from the Visitor Centre at Fairholmes. The wider valley terrain has some challenging inclines on rocky paths. Avid walkers planning to explore the high moorland should be suitably equipped.

Warning: There is no full walking route around Ladybower Reservoir due to the dangerous A57 with no footway or verge. Please see the trail map in Heatherdene car park or the visitor centre at Fairholmes for available walking routes in the area.
