Melbourne Sewage Treatment Works
Since October 2023 we’ve been upgrading Melbourne Sewage Treatment Works as part of a £70million project to improve water quality in Carr Brook, Melbourne, Scots Brook, Ticknall, Ramsley Brook, Breedon and Grace Dieu Brook, Osgathorpe.
Upgrades to Melbourne STW have included increasing treatment capacity, replacing aging infrastructure and constructing new equipment for the storage and processing of wastewater
The wider scheme involves transferring water that has been through the full treatment process from Snarrows STW along a new 12km pipeline to a new outfall in the River Trent. This is expected to be completed later this year.
Ticknall and Breedon sewage treatment works have also been downgraded to pumping stations and all flows transferred to Melbourne STW. The fully treated water from Melbourne STW is then being transferred away from Carr Brook along a new 2km sewer to an outfall in the River Trent.
By autumn 2025 there will be a reduced presence at Melbourne STW until the completion of the construction works in the New Year and we expect the scheme to be fully complete by February 2026.
