Lower Penn
Wolverhampton
We’re investing in Wolverhampton's future
Lower Penn Sewage Treatment Works has been operational for some time and will now be converted into a Sewage Pumping Station.
We’re investing over £3 million to further improve the water quality leaving Lower Penn Sewage Treatment work. This investment will allow us to transfer the treatment process to Barnhurst Sewage Treatment Works via Warstones Pumping Station, located In Hamble Road, Wolverhampton. To do this, we’ll be building a new underground storage tank at Lower Penn treatment works and laying a new pipe from Lower Penn to Warstones pumping station, so we can transfer the treatment process to Barnhurst treatment works.
These upgrades are to improve water quality to meet new targets set by the Environment Agency and the Drinking Water Inspectorate. We will be working inside the at the sewage treatment works and the land behind to install new equipment. Work is planned to be completed by the end of March 2025.
The work starts in March 2024 and will take up to over 12 months to complete, during this time our team will be working in various locations, within and next to the existing treatment works off Market Lane, and in the nearby fields, we may also need to carry out some works in the carriage way near Hamble Road. Our team will begin by setting up a temporary site compound at our Lower Penn Works. This will provide clean and safe facilities for the team during the project. The team will then start working from Lower Penn Works across the fields until they reach our Warstones Pumping Station. We also have permission for two other welfare units, at Warstones pumping station.
