Severn Trent encourages customers to show the planet some love this Valentine’s Day

Thursday 11th February

Severn Trent is encouraging customers to show the planet some love this Valentine’s Day by keeping water usage at the front of their minds.

With just one minute less in the shower saving an astounding 10 litres of water, small changes from everyone have the power to make a big difference.

Doug Clarke, water resources manager for Severn Trent, explains: “We know it’s a challenging time for everyone right now, which is why making sure our customers have a reliable water supply is as vital now as it’s ever been. While it might seem to rain endlessly in Britain, the truth is that less than 1% of the world’s water can actually be consumed – the rest of it is either salty seawater or contained in ice caps, so it's important we look after what we've got.”

As one of the founding members of the World Water Innovation Fund, Severn Trent is working closely with water companies from across the world to help change and protect the future of water for everyone. By sharing resources and best practice, the fund is aiming to accelerate water innovation to make a real difference on a global scale.

Doug added: “Showers make up about 20% of our water usage, so spending one less minute in the shower, or turning off the water while you shampoo and lather up, can make a huge difference to our planet – meaning we’ll use less energy, cut carbon emissions and reduce the impact on our beautiful reservoirs. Plus, it’ll help us to make sure there is plenty of wonderful water for everyone to enjoy for generations to come!”
