Severn Trent launches its second month of money-saving drop-ins, with 2,000 customers already helped

Monday 31 October 2022

Severn Trent customers in Leicestershire are being invited to Severn Trent’s continuing series of money-saving drop-ins. Over the last four weeks, the team has chatted to more than 2,000 customers, sharing tips and advice to help save money and make their home water efficient.

The drop-in sessions give customers the opportunity to speak directly to the Severn Trent team, to find out how they can save money on their utility bills by making small changes to reduce their water use at home, find out how to access free water savings products, and get more information on making their home as water efficient as possible.

According to data from Severn Trent and the Community Council for Water, after the free installation of a water meter, an average family of four could save £1,300 a year on their utility bills by making small changes.

From next week, the teams will be at Tesco, 100 New Park Street, LE3 5NJ from 9am – 4pm on Tuesday 1st November, Wednesday 2nd November and Thursday 3rd November.

Sophie Evans-Young, Water Efficiency Manager at Severn Trent said: “Working with the Community Council for Water, we’ve worked out that an average family of four on a water meter could save up to £1,300 a year on their utility bills by making a few simple changes to the ways that they use water around their homes.

“Our team can have a chat with you about your water use at home and share some useful small changes that you can make which will add up to some substantial savings, such as cutting showers from 10 minutes to 5 which can save £700 a year.

"There are also a wide range of free and subsidised products that are available on the Severn Trent website, from water butts to low-flow shower heads. These drop-in sessions are a fantastic way for people to find out first-hand the kind of savings that they could see on their energy bills. Our team are really friendly and knowledgeable, and we’ve had thousands of people visit us at drop-ins so far.”

The Severn Trent team will also provide information on the financial support that customers can access if they’re struggling to pay their bill. This includes the £30 million support fund launched by the company earlier this year to support an extra 100,000 customers as the cost of living continues to rise.

Sophie continued: “Times are a bit tougher for all of us now and it’s never been more important for people to know that this kind of help is there if they need it.

“We really would encourage anyone who can make it along to these sessions to drop in, as they could be really surprised by the kind of simple changes that can help them to save on their utility bills.”
