Liv Garfield named one of Glassdoor’s top UK chief executives

19 June 2019

Employment website Glassdoor has revealed that Severn Trent chief executive Liv has scooped a Glassdoor Employees’ Choice Award which honours the country’s top CEOs.

The award is based on the rating that a company’s own employees give, with Liv getting a 91% approval rating, putting her straight into Glassdoor’s top 50.

“It’s really quite humbling to know that Severn Trent’s own employees shared their views like this, and I’m just chuffed to bits to be recognised because it means so much more when it’s your own teams who’ve voted,” said Liv.

“It’s really important to me and to the company that we’ve built a great place to work for everyone here at Severn Trent and that we serve our customers to very best of our abilities, and that’s so much more important than any personal recognition.”

Severn Trent, which employs around 6,000 people across the Midlands, is also a top 50 UK company to work for, as voted for by our own employees in the Glassdoor rankings. It comes 44th in the rankings, just behind Apple.

Christian Sutherland-Wong, Glassdoor president and chief operating officer said: “It’s an honour to recognise incredible leaders who, from their employees’ perspectives, exemplify exceptional vision, trust and communication. Glassdoor’s Top CEOs award continues to be more competitive every year, and I congratulate each leader on their achievement.

“Today’s job seekers are looking for leaders who share their values and will empower them to bring their full selves to work. More and more, we’re seeing Top CEOs make decisions to shape the culture of their organisations to help recruit and retain quality talent, which has a direct correlation to fuelling business success.”

When employees submit reviews about their company on Glassdoor, they are asked to rate various factors about their employment experience, including their overall satisfaction and other workplace attributes like senior management. As part of these ratings, employees are also asked to rate whether they approve, disapprove or are neutral about the job their CEO is doing. Among the approximately 900,000 companies reviewed on Glassdoor, the average CEO approval rating is 69%.

Glassdoor’s Top CEOs in 2019 were determined using company reviews shared by UK-based employees between 2nd May, 2018 and 1st May, 2019.

The final list is compiled using Glassdoor’s proprietary algorithm, led by its Economic Research Team, and takes into account quantity, quality and consistency of reviews.
