Severn Trent customers can pay their bills easier than ever thanks to new digital trial

FTSE 100 water and waste company Severn Trent has introduced a new payment method that will make paying bills easier than ever.

The company trialled ‘Mobi-Pay’ last year which allows the company to send customers a text or email reminder which people can click on, taking them right to payment page allowing them to pay their bill more quickly than ever before.

Severn Trent say that it estimates by introducing Mobi-Pay it will save around 211,000 paper reminders from being issued each year, making a positive impact on its environmental footprint.

The company also says in a survey run through the trial, customers using the Mobi-Pay service rated it an amazing 4.8 out of 5.

Dan Leese, programme director at Severn Trent, said: “We’re passionate about giving our customers the best possible experience, and we’re confident that by using Mobi-Pay we’re making paying bills easier than ever.

"By simply clicking on the text or email reminder, customers just need to validate who they are and can get on with paying the bill and making sure their account is up to date. It’s really easy to use and cuts down on the number of paper bills or letters we have to send out.”

Severn Trent trialled Mobi-Pay by sending around 30,000 messages to a select group of customers, encouraging them to pay their bill online by simply clicking the link.The company says it saw around a third of customers opting to pay their bill this way.

“We’re living in a digital age now, so it’s only right we introduce ways to make our customers’ experience with us easier,” adds Dan. “Mobi-Pay allows customers to pay their bill when they want, without having to contact us or waiting for a letter to come through the door. If all our customers opted to go paperless, they’d be able to manage their account online whenever they want while bringing benefits to the environment.”

With the success of the trial and how well it’s been received, Severn Trent is looking to get Mobi-Pay in place permanently and available to all its customers.
