Working with us

How we work with suppliers and contractors

We operate in a wide variety of supply markets that have different levels of complexity, risk and opportunity.

It’s why we work collaboratively with our suppliers and take account of the supply market they operate in and reflect the strategic importance of the goods and services they provide.

In doing so we’re able to improve supply chain performance, reduce costs and effectively manage risk.

Complying to regulations

Our supply agreements are awarded in compliance with the European UnionUtilities Contract Regulations.

The format of these agreements, for example contract length and number of suppliers, is determined on a case-by-case basis.

Typically, agreements will be developed taking into consideration the nature of the market and the relative size of spend on the goods or services.

Where legislation requires us to make a call for competition, potential suppliers will be identified from responses to advertisements in the Official Journal of The European Union or via the Achilles Utilities Vendor Database.

Where a call for competition isn’t required, potential suppliers are identified from numerous sources including trade associations, our approved supplier database, the internet, supplier catalogues and from historical expressions of interest.

Corporate and procurement responsibility

We believe strongly in honesty, integrity and fair competition, which is why allour sourcing activities are compliant with the Competition Act 1998 andOFWAT's Regulatory Guideline ‘Transfer Pricing in The Water Industry’.

When dealing with suppliers we never abuse our purchasing power, changepayment terms or break confidentiality.

Naturally, we expect our suppliers to2share these practices.

We’ll also continue to develop sustainable procurementpolicies that encompass economic, environmental and social considerations.

Continuous improvement

Our supply chain and procurement team continually seek to improve the waywe interact with our suppliers.

Key to this is adopting the latest best practiced developments in supply chain and procurement through benchmarking and research, as well as listening to feedback from our suppliers.

We also evaluate and welcome alternative approaches to sourcing, for example e-tendering, as we believe technology is a valuable way to streamlineprocurement processes and share information with our suppliers.

How we manage purchase orders

If your business has provided us with a chargeable service, you’ll need us toemail you a purchase order to add your invoice.

Purchase orders are raised against our general terms and conditions unless the purchase order states that other terms and conditions apply, for example a specific contract.

In this case, we'll agree any changes to the standard terms and conditions with the supplier in advance.

The approved contractors and consultants listed below have been rigorouslyassessed by Severn Trent.

We also have a system of key performanceindicators in place to make sure we work together with our suppliers tocontinually improve our performance.

Our highest priority will always be the safety and well-being of our visitors and employees. It’s why we insist anyone working on a Severn Trent site be safely inducted before starting work. No excuses. No exceptions.

Breaking any of our regulations or carrying out an unsafe act on site will result in you being removed and may also end up with you being denied access to discharge at any of our other sewage works. Any unsafe act or near miss must be reported to the site management. Work is also only permitted in specified areas, so be aware that access to some locations is not authorised.

If you’re visiting one of our tankered waste sites it’s important you watch our site safety video approve before you arrive.
