We've reopened for new applications
Over the last couple of months, we’ve been busy refocusing our Community Fund to support our most vulnerable communities deal with the impact of coronavirus. It’s been really inspiring to see how much fantastic work is happening across our region at this time, and we’re proud to have been able to offer our thanks to those charities via our £1m Emergency Fund donations. We’ll be continuing to make separate coronavirus donations to support our communities through the pandemic, with more details available soon.
But for now, we’re now thrilled to say that we’ve opened back up our Community Fund to normal applications! The aims of our Community Fund are still the same, since improving community wellbeing is arguably now more important than ever. And our eligibility criteria remains the same too; we’re looking to fund new projects, rather than general organisational running costs.
We are all aware however that Covid-19 has had a big impact on our daily lives and how we can all operate in the foreseeable future, so we will be looking for applications to detail how you plan to adapt to the latest government guidelines.

Our new Community Fund
Our customers, and the communities we live and work in, are at the heart of everything we do. And that’s why, from 2020, we’re going to be giving away £10million over the next five years to support local projects, charities and community groups in the Severn Trent region - helping to make a real and tangible difference in our communities.
Projects chosen by customers
The fund is overseen by a Community Fund Panel made up of our customers, who review applications on a quarterly basis, and so, ultimately, it’s you who will decide where the money will be spent.
Our Community Fund Panel will meet for the first time in March 2020 and we will be giving out our first grants to local community projects from April 2020.
How it works and who can apply
Our customers have helped us to create and shape our new community fund. We’ve spoken to lots of you to better understand your community needs, and as a result, have chosen to design our fund around improving community wellbeing.
By this we mean:
- People: Projects that help people to lead a healthier life and gain new skills
- Places: Projects that help to create better places to live in and use
- Environment: Projects that will help look after our natural environment, give people greater access to that environment or help look after water
And of course, being a water company, naturally we’d love to see applications for projects that have a connection to water too (although not essential)! This might mean creating sustainable drainage, installing grey water recycling or creating water efficient green spaces.
Applying for funding from the Severn Trent Community Fund
We’ve been astounded by how much interest our Community Fund has generated so far and how many fantastic community projects are planned across our region.
At our previous panel meeting we received over £5m worth of applications with only a limited budget to spend so, although we’d love to, unfortunately we can’t fund every application we receive. With this in mind, we’d like to make you aware that if you are applying for a large amount of money, the Panel may only choose to support 1 application from our largest funding pot per quarter.
If your organisation is registered not-for-profit, and the project you would like to fund will benefit Severn Trent customers, you may be eligible for a grant from the Severn Trent Community Fund.
