We are pausing awarding new projects
Re-focusing on core costs fund
With the recent National Council for Voluntary Organisations report giving a worrying insight into the scale of challenges charities and groups are currently facing, we know many groups are facing an incredibly tough few months ahead. After reading that 1 in 5 five charities will be forced to ‘disappear’ this winter if they are not given urgent support, we knew we needed to help our communities.
In response to this immediate need we’ve re-focused the remainder of this year’s Community Fund specifically to cover core costs for groups, to help them continue delivering their vital services to our communities.
What this means for new projects
Whilst we won’t be awarding applications for new projects during this time, new project applications can still be submitted to us. We’ll continue internally reviewing your application however the next opportunity to be considered for award will be from March 2024 for applications of over £10,000 and May 2024 for applications of £2,000 - £10,000.
Our Community Fund
Our customers, and the communities we live and work in, are at the heart of everything we do. And that’s why, from 2020, we’re going to be giving away more than £10million over the next five years to support new projects by local charities and community groups in the Severn Trent region - helping to make a real and tangible difference in our communities.
Our third annual Community Fund Review is now available to view, this looks back at the amazing causes we've supported in our third year.
Projects chosen by customers
The fund is overseen by a Community Fund Panel made up of our customers who review applications and so, ultimately, it’s our customers who decide where the money goes.
How it works and who can apply
Our customers have helped us to create and shape our community fund. We’ve spoken to lots of you to better understand your community needs, and as a result, have chosen to design our fund around improving community wellbeing.
By this we mean:
We seek to fund projects that link to these key elements of community wellbeing - with favourability shown to projects that ideally lie within a ‘sweet spot’ that incorporates all three. If you’re applying for over £75,000, please note that a combination of all three of these themes is necessary to be eligible.
And of course, being a water company, naturally we’d love to see applications for projects that have a connection to water too (although not essential)! This might mean creating sustainable drainage, installing grey water recycling or creating water efficient green spaces.
Types of projects we're looking for
We’re ideally looking for projects that are unique, have a genuine community need, and stand out as having a real impact on improving community wellbeing.
To give you an idea of the types of projects that are funded, take a look at some of the projects we’ve funded so far.
Before applying, we encourage all interested applicants to discuss their project idea with one of our dedicated Fund Officers. We can tell you if it’s a good fit for our aims and what to expect with the application process, just feel free to get in touch with us at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Applying for funding from the Severn Trent Community Fund
We’ve been astounded by how much interest our Community Fund has generated so far and how many fantastic community projects are planned across our region.
Although we’d love to unfortunately we can’t fund every application we receive, so we’re having to prioritise the projects with the strongest fit to our criteria.
With this in mind, we’d also like to make you aware that if you are applying for our largest funding pot, our Customer Panel are only able to fund a handful of these each year.
You can log in to your Community Fund account to check on the progress of your existing application.
