These works will help the site better manage extreme weather and support nature, while ensuring it remains a great place to visit.
What’s happening at Linacre Water?
We’re upgrading the spillway at Linacre lower reservoir and carrying out wider dam safety and environmental improvements across the site.
This includes:
- Replacing the existing spillway with a new, wider structure
- Increasing capacity to safely manage water during heavy rainfall
- Environmental improvements to support wildlife and habitats
Why we’re carrying out this work
We’re investing in Linacre to make sure it remains safe, resilient and protected in the future.
Modern assessments show that increasing the spillway capacity will help the reservoirs safely manage more extreme weather events.
Alongside this, we’re improving the surrounding landscape to support biodiversity and long-term environmental resilience.
What this means for your visit
You can still enjoy Linacre Water during the works, but there will be some changes on site.
We’re sorry for any inconvenience and appreciate your patience while we complete these upgrades.
Water levels
You may notice lower water levels across the reservoirs. This is necessary so we can safely carry out the improvement works and manage water during heavy rainfall. Water levels will return to normal once works are complete.
Supporting wildlife
Linacre is an important site for wildlife, and we’re taking great care to protect it. We’ve completed detailed ecological surveys and continue to monitor the site throughout the works.
As part of the project, we’re also:
- Improving woodland health
- Creating new habitats
- Planting a wider mix of tree species
- Enhancing grassland for pollinators
Our investment
We’re investing £5.9 million into improving Linacre Water and protecting the site for future generations.
