Dam builders to Dambusters Trails

Discover the fascinating history behind the ‘Dam builders to Dambusters’ with our two trails taking you through Tin Town and around the Derwent Dam area, marked by sculptures.

Upper Derwent Valley is full of memories and has a rich history behind it. The building of Derwent and Howden Dam took over 10 years to complete and over 2,000 labourers. During the Second World War, Derwent Dam was used for training exercises by the RAF 'Dambusters' squadron under the cover of darkness.

Walk our two new trails and read all about it in our 'Dam builders to Dambusters' booklet available at the Fairholmes visitor centre.
