Severn Trent customers in Tunstall to receive upgrades to their water supply

11th November 2022

Severn Trent is due to begin a programme to replace water pipes in Tunstall, Stoke on Trent.

Starting on 14 November 2022, the work will take place over 11 months and will see the company replace older water mains, to help reduce the risk of bursts which can interrupt customer supply.

In order to complete the project as quickly as possible, two teams will be working simultaneously. One team working on Carlton Avenue and the junctions of Gowan Avenue and Telford Way, and the second team delivering the upgrades in May Avenue and St Chad’s Road.

The works follow a community drop-in which was held at the start of November, giving residents the opportunity to learn more about the scheme.

Rachel Lowe, Community Communications Officer at Seven Trent, said: "Pipe replacement projects such as this are essential investments to ensure a continued and uninterrupted supply of water to our customers, both now and into the future, by reducing the risk of bursts.

“Factors including climate change and population growth have an impact on our network, so we want to be absolutely certain that our infrastructure is in the best possible position to continue to meet these challenges.”

Carlton Avenue, May Avenue and St Chads Road will see a combination of temporary closures and traffic management including signs and barriers during the works to ensure the safety of the teams delivering the upgrades.

Rachel continued: “We understand that roadworks can be frustrating, and we try to avoid disruption wherever possible. Our teams will be working hard to complete the works and get everything back to normal as quickly as possible and we would like to thank everyone in advance for their patience while we carry out these essential improvements.”
