Family fun at Severn Trent’s visitor sites this half-term – with a reminder to stay safe in the sunshine

Friday 22nd May 2026

With a warm bank holiday and half-term week on its way, families are being invited to enjoy a brilliant day out at Severn Trent’s visitor sites – with plenty of activities to help people get active, explore nature and make the most of the great outdoors.

A new Move with Nature Trail is opening fresh for the May holidays, giving families the opportunity to take in the scenic site, test their nature-based knowledge and try out some nature-inspired movements.

Running from Saturday 23rd May to Sunday 31st May, the free trail is easy to follow and people can just turn up and get started.

With temperatures set to rise, Severn Trent is also urging people to enjoy the reservoir safely. While the water will look inviting in the heat, reservoirs are operational sites that are extremely cold, very deep, have strong currents and machinery beneath the surface that you can’t see.  So, people are asked to stay out of the water and enjoy themselves safely.

BBQs, campfires and disposable grills should also be left at home, as dry weather can increase the risk of fires and threaten to harm these beautiful spaces and the wildlife that call them home.

With warmer weather comes using more water, so try simple swaps like turning off the tap while brushing your teeth or using a watering can instead of a hose. Every little change at home helps save water, especially when we all do our bit.

For those who love swimming, Carsington Water is hosting an organised swimming event which will take place on Saturday 6th June, making it the only way to be able to access the water at the reservoir safely. To sign up for the event, visit the Pacesetter website.

Dan Taberner, Visitor Experience Lead at Severn Trent said: “We have so much going on at our visitor sites, not just for the half term but all year round, making it a fantastic place for families and friends to spend time in the outdoors together.

“Whether you’re taking part in the trail, going for a walk or just enjoying the views, we love seeing people make the most of the site – and just remember to stay safe around the water while you’re here. And when you’re at home, please always be mindful of water and how we use it thinking of reusing water around the home and in the garden.”

There are many other activities to get involved in at across all of our sites, including our free hands-on water exhibition at Carsington, as well as watersports and fishing across other sites. There are also great cafés and restaurants and huge play areas.

There are also a number of different walks for all abilities for people to enjoy, as well as other activities such as birdwatching and even a monthly market.
