Stoke Mains Renewal Scheme

Our dedicated information hub for the Stoke Mains Renewal Scheme.

We are committed to keeping you informed about this essential work to upgrade your water network.

April 2025 to April 2027

Where we're working

We are investing over £25 million to upgrade approximately 40km of old water pipes in your area. This work is essential to reduce leaks and interruptions, ensuring a reliable supply of water for years to come.

Our work is focused across the following areas: Hanley, Sneyd Green, Burslem, and Birches Head.

We are working across multiple areas simultaneously to complete the project faster and reduce long-term disruption.

You'll see our trusted contractors, Pipeline Utilities, and McAndrew Utilities carrying out the work on our behalf.

Standard Working Hours

Christmas and New Year Working Schedule

We understand that roadworks can be frustrating and aim to minimise disruption as much as possible.

Traffic management and road closures

Parking and fines

Access to homes and businesses

We will always try to keep access open. If we need to restrict vehicle access temporarily, we will let you know in advance. Please ensure the area is kept clear of parked cars to help us work safely and quickly.

Impacts on your water

If we need to interrupt your water supply, we will give you at least 48 hours’ notice with a card detailing the expected start and end times.

Emergency Services

We are working closely with emergency services to ensure they can access all necessary routes quickly.

Bus Services

Some bus routes will be affected. We have arranged a shuttle service with Stantons of Stoke to help you reach your usual connections.

Bin Collections

Please place your bins at the end of the road on collection day. If they are missed, call the council on 01782 234000. Our on-site teams will assist where they can.

If you don't see any workers on site

If the site appears empty, the teams may be:

Dust and equipment

We work to keep dust to a minimum, but it is sometimes unavoidable during roadworks. Equipment and soil will be stored safely on site and removed regularly.

Tidying up

Once the pipe installation is complete, a separate team will come in to clean up and restore the area. Our aim is to leave your street as good as we found it.

Compensation

We do not offer compensation for general disruption. However, specific eligibility criteria apply:

Support for Vulnerable Customers

If you or someone you know requires extra support, please let us know. You can also register for our Priority Services.
