Wellington Telford CSO scheme
Shropshire
We’re investing in Telford's future
As part of our commitment to improving river quality, we are upgrading our Combined Sewer Overflow (CSO) within Morrisons Car Park, Wellington, Telford.
A CSO is a safety feature in a combined sewer system. Combined sewers carry both rainwater from streets and sewage from homes into a single pipe.
During heavy rain, these systems can become overwhelmed. When this occurs, the CSO acts as a relief valve, releasing a mix of rainwater and diluted sewage into a nearby river or watercourse to prevent homes and businesses from flooding.
We’re improving the tank below the Morrison’s car park by adding new equipment and screens. These upgrades will help clean any overflow from the sewer during heavy rain.
This means that if there’s a storm, waste will be filtered out before it reaches local rivers or streams—helping protect the environment.
Due to circumstances beyond our control, works are set to continue until Spring 2026. We apologise for any ongoing inconvenience and we are working hard to complete the project safely as soon as we can.
We will continue to update you with any additional information as the project continues.
Thank you for your ongoing patience as we continue to improve our rivers for you and future generations.
