Water has shaped Matlock for generations. From the cloth mills to the hydros, water is a part of this town’s history and popularity.
We’re working hard in your town to make sure you can cope with a changing climate and heavier rainfall, while protecting the River Derwent. For the Matlock of today and for the generations to come.
Whether you’re a resident, a local business or a visitor, read on to find out what’s happening.
Join us for a week of events this April
See the past. Hear about the future. Tell us what matters to you.
We're inviting you to come along to our community drop-ins to:
Alongside community drop-ins we have dedicated sessions for local businesses and councilors.
The changes we're making in Matlock
We’re going to be working in Matlock from 2026 onwards to give local people a more resilient network, prepare for the impacts of climate change and keep the River Derwent clean.
Things you can expect to see us doing include:
What to expect from us during the work
These changes will bring long term benefits to the town and its residents, but we know the work will be disruptive.
That’s why we’re working closely with the people of Matlock to help them understand what’s happening, keep them informed, and plan our work with them.
How we’ll support you and your neighbours:
Protecting the River Derwent
The Derwent plays a big part in local life, and the works we’re doing are going to help both the river itself and the wildlife that calls it home.
We’ll give updates when the works begin, but if you want to know what we’re doing to protect rivers and streams in the meantime, our Get River Positive pages are a great place to start.
Got a question?
We’d love to hear from you (after all, we’re going to be almost neighbours for a while).
If you need to contact us about something unrelated to the work, you can visit our contact us page, or call 0800 783 4444 if it's an emergency.
