Frankley Pure Water Reservoir 3

Central

We’re investing in Birmingham's future

To continue providing safe, reliable water to our communities, we're planning some future upgrades at our Frankley site. As part of this, we're looking to purchase nearby land to allow for future expansion.

This will help us meet growing demand, improve resilience, and ensure our infrastructure keeps pace with environmental standards and customer needs.

We will continue to update this page regularly as soon as more information becomes available.

We are putting forward plans for a new covered treated water reservoir and pumping station at Frankley.

These proposals are designed to support the continued provision of safe, reliable drinking water and to maintain resilience for Birmingham’s water network. This will allow essential maintenance activities to take place on our existing assets without compromising water quality or the ability to meet customer demand.

The attached indicative plan shows the planning boundary for the new reservoir project. This reflects the area to be submitted for planning approval. Final construction areas will be confirmed once the design is developed further.

Construction is expected to begin once land arrangements and the necessary permissions are in place. As this process is still ongoing, we’re not able to confirm exact start dates yet but as soon as we have confirmed timelines, we will update this page to keep you informed.

As part of these works, Severn Trent are committed to delivering a minimum of 10% Biodiversity Net Gain (BNG) in accordance with the statutory requirement. The final BNG strategy will be informed by the findings of the ecological assessments and will be secured through the planning process.

Ground investigations have now concluded. However, we will continue to monitor the field and may need to return to carry out further works if necessary.

We are working closely with the landowner to agree access arrangements.

We would also like to let residents know that there will be no car boot event held during 2026.

If you have any questions or would like to know more about the project, please get in touch by using the contact details at the bottom of this page.
