Why isn’t my household eligible, even though my area is?

We understand it’s disappointing to learn the trial is available nearby but that your home can't join just yet.

This is usually because of the reasons below:

This is the most common reason. The trial relies on precise, frequent data.

  • You don't have a smart meter yet. The trial requires a modern smart meter that can send four weeks of usage data to set water saving targets.
  • Your smart meter isn't connected. Sometimes a meter is installed but isn't yet joined to our network.
  • Signal issues. Thick walls or location can sometimes interrupt the data signal from your meter.

Our systems need to be able to read and process the data reliably.

  • Data compatibility. In rare cases, older models of smart meters might not be compatible with the trial's software platform.
  • Network coverage. The trial relies on a specific data network to receive information, which can have varying coverage, even within a postcode.

To ensure reliable results, we have to manage the rollout carefully.

  • Phased rollout. We're adding households in controlled phases to ensure our systems and support teams can handle the load. Your home might be in a later phase.

If you don’t have a smart meter

This is your number one step to getting trial-ready. We’re working hard to include as many homes as possible. Thank you for your interest.
