Wilford Suspension Bridge Lovelocks

Discover how we are collaborating with Nottingham City Council, Nottingham Trent University, and the University of Nottingham to transform the bridge's removed lovelocks into a beautiful, structurally safe community landmark.

Reimagining the Wilford Suspension Bridge Lovelocks

In August 2025, we removed lovelocks from the Wilford Suspension Bridge due to safety concerns with the bridge’s structure. For those locks that weren’t collected by their owners, we want to create a space to reflect the love and relationships those locks represent.

We’ve teamed up with Nottingham City Council, Nottingham Trent University and the University of Nottingham, working with their architecture students, to create a shortlist of design ideas, with one of these coming to life.

Please take time to take a look through the designs that students from both universities have spent time creating. You can provide feedback through the link at the bottom of this page.

After all the feedback has been collated, a judging panel made up of representatives from Severn Trent, Nottingham City Council, Nottingham Trent University, University of Nottingham and a member of the public (who also had a lock on the bridge) will decide on a winner.
