Summer of fun on the menu at Shustoke Water
3rd July 2023
Severn Trent is putting on a summer of fun this July and August to help people explore its beauty spots that are right on the doorsteps including Shustoke Water.
With the summer holidays nearly here, people will be looking to venture into the great outdoors a bit more and the water company is encouraging everyone to find out more about its visitor sites.
Nestled in the heart of Warwickshire, Shustoke is two reservoirs that are a haven of tranquillity for nature lovers, hikers and water enthusiasts, as well as being famous for its impressive wildflower displays.
But that’s not all, if you are looking for a walk then Lower Shustoke offers a tranquil circular walk of around two miles, although those who are looking for something longer the circular walk offers links to the Heart of England Way and the Centenary Way.
It is also a haven for wildlife and is perfect for twitchers looking for a bit of birdwatching and fishing is also available on site.
Debbie Dean, Visitor Site Manager at Severn Trent, said: “Shustoke Water is a place for everyone to enjoy, whether that’s a family looking for a day out, wildlife enthusiasts or those looking for a bit of exercise and some fresh air.
“There is so much to see and do on the site, we hope the great British weather holds out and we look forward to welcoming lots of you to see what’s on offer over the coming months
The construction of Shustoke was complete in 1884 and about ten per cent of the water supplies Coventry with the rest going to Nuneaton and the surrounding districts of Bedworth and Atherstone.
The water is gravity fed by the nearby River Bourne which runs along the north of the two reservoirs, which consist of a settling pool of 7.8 acres and a storage reservoir of 92 acres. Combined they have a capacity of around 460,000,000 gallons of water.
