Stratford-upon-Avon MP Manuela Perteghella visits Severn Trent’s Milcote Sewage Treatment Works

Thursday 3rd July 2025

Manuela Perteghella, MP for Stratford-upon-Avon, learned the work that goes into the sewage treatment process after visiting Severn Trent’s Milcote site.

Milcote Sewage Treatment Works serves around 70,000 people from Stratford and surrounding villages and is currently undergoing an £11 million investment as part of Severn Trent’s Green Recovery programme.

The upgrade includes the installation of Tertiary Solids Removal (TSR) technology at the final stage of the treatment process, which will further enhance the quality of water before it is returned to the environment.

During the visit, the MP was given a full tour of the site and observed the end-to-end sewage treatment process. She expressed her amazement at the transformation of the water from its initial state to the final, much cleaner output.

There was also a discussion around the planning process and how Severn Trent is preparing for growth in population over the coming years.

Manuela Perteghella MP for Stratford-upon-Avon said: "The visit to the Milcote site was very insightful and learning about the work that goes into the treatment process was very interesting. It was lovely to meet the dedicated team who work there.

"I was shown innovative solutions like the TSR technology to further improve water quality.

I also discussed planning and sewerage infrastructure, a concern of many constituents."

Mark Bywater from Severn Trent added: “We were delighted to welcome Manuela Perteghella MP to Milcote and showcase the important work we’re doing as part of our Green Recovery programme.

The £11 million investment in the technology will help us go even further in protecting our rivers and streams, ensuring we continue to deliver for both our customers and the environment.”
