A major scheme to upgrade the water network in the Forest Fields area of Nottingham is ahead of schedule – Severn Trent has revealed.

Work to install six kilometres of brand-new water pipes in the city has progressed quicker than planned, after engineers recently passed the half-way stage of the project.  

Reaching this milestone one month ahead of schedule means the £1.5m project is now expected to be complete by February 2022. 

Helen Purdy from Severn Trent, said: “Over the past five months, we’ve made great progress on this project, which include plans to replace six kilometres of ageing water pipes with brand-new ones in Forest Fields. 

“We’re now at the half-way stage - a month sooner than we expected, which means we’re hoping to be finished by February next year.”

Helen added: “We’d like to thank customers in the area for their continued patience and understanding while we’ve been working in the area. Their co-operation is a big reason why we’re ahead of schedule.

“Once all of the work is complete, the area will have a modern and reliable water network that will last for generations.”

The essential work taking place in Forest Fields will help to reduce the number of leaks and bursts in the area. Laid end-to-end in a straight line, the new pipes would reach from Goose Fair to junction 26 of the M1.
