Severn Trent to invest £5m in helping secure Nottinghamshire’s water supply

Friday 12th November 2018

Midlands water and waste company Severn Trent has announced it’s investing £5 million to build a new service reservoir in the county.

The new underground reservoir, which is currently being built on land near Diamond Avenue in Kirkby-in-Ashfield, will replace the existing, but ageing, reservoir in the same area.

When completed in early 2020, the concrete reservoir will be able to store around 13 million litres of treated water and make supplies that much more resilient for over 30,000 customers.

Severn Trent’s Richard Evans, who is managing the project, said: “Service reservoirs are the unsung heroes of our business – they hold millions of litres of treated water to ensure our customers have our wonderful water whenever they need it but hardly anyone knows that they’re there.

“It’s important to us that, once we finish building it, the new reservoir will merge into the landscape and just quietly get on with the job that it’s designed to do without local people having to think about it.”

As construction work is being carried out on-site only, Severn Trent doesn’t expect any customers or local roads to be affected.

“As the local population continues to grow, we decided that now was the right time to upgrade the Diamond Avenue site to provide a far more resilient water supply that we can easily maintain. It’s all about us making sure our supply is fit for the future,” said Richard.

The company has also put in place measures to keep noise to a minimum with all work taking place between 7:30am and 6pm from Monday to Friday. No work will happen at weekends or during Bank Holidays.
