Severn Trent to introduce traffic calming measures following feedback from residents as part of ongoing work in Sneyd Green
October 9th, 2025
Following feedback from local residents, Severn Trent is bringing temporary traffic calming measures to Kelvin Avenue to ensure the safety of both road users and onsite teams as its mains renewal work continues.
Red and white barriers will be installed outside properties in Kelvin Avenue, forming a chicane with priority signage from tomorrow (October 10th) as a new measure to help with traffic management.
Drivers are being advised that vehicles travelling from Northam/Chorlton Road towards Buxton Street will be given priority through the new layout. In addition, no parking cones will be placed near the traffic management area to maintain a clear and safe route for all.
These changes are expected to remain in place until February 2026 and have been introduced following feedback from local residents during Phase 3 of the works on Hanley Road and Chell Street.
After reviewing traffic flow in the area, it is believed the adjustments will help minimise disruption while maintaining a safe working environment.
Charlene Richards, Community Communications Officer for Severn Trent, said: "The safety of our customers and residents of the Sneyd Green area is very important to us and these temporary traffic calming measures on Kelvin Avenue are designed to improve safety and traffic flow while our teams carry out work in the area.
“We want to thank all the residents for their feedback which have helped to implement these new measures and continued patience as we work to improve services for the community.
“We encourage all road users to take extra care when travelling through the area, especially where road layouts may be temporarily altered.”
The company also reminds residents to keep the designated traffic management zones clear of parked vehicles to help maintain smooth operations.
Severn Trent is investing £25million in the city to replace ageing water pipes that will help serve generations to come. The scheme is seeing 24 miles of new pipe installed across Hanley, Burslem, and Sneyd Green with the full programme expected to complete by April 2027.
