Severn Trent to begin overnight ground inspections ahead of £132,000 sewer project starting

Friday 20th February 2027

Severn Trent will begin essential ground investigations next week as part of preparations for a significant upgrade to the local sewer network, due to begin later this year.

The company is investing more than £132,000 to improve the resilience of the wastewater system and reduce the risk of flooding in the area.

To allow teams to carry out the initial groundwork safely, Bromford Lane, Bromford Road and Farnhurst Road will be closed overnight for three nights, from Monday 23 February to Wednesday 25 February, between 8:00pm and 6:00am.

These inspections will help engineers understand the condition of the ground and identify any existing underground services, ensuring that the full project can be designed and delivered as efficiently as possible.

Janine Billington, Community Communications Officer at Severn Trent, said: “These ground inspections are an essential part of any major project. They allow us to plan our work carefully, so that once construction begins later in the year, we can complete it quickly, efficiently and with minimal disruption.

“This investment will bring important improvements to the local waste network, reducing the risk of flooding and helping ensure the system can cope with future growth and increasingly heavy rainfall.”

Teams will be using specialist scanning technology to assess potential hazards and understand what lies beneath the road surface. This information will shape the next phase of the project.

Janine added: “We know this is a busy area, which is why our teams will be working overnight to keep disruption to a minimum. Once we have the results from these first investigations, we’ll be able to share more details with the community about our plans and how the works will take place.”
