Severn Trent starts work to replace water pipes in Manton

This week, we're starting work to replace the old water pipes in Oakham Road, Manton.

Chris Bown, Area Leakage Manager, explains:  “We really want our customers to have a water supply that they can rely on, without us having to dig up the road every five minutes.  Following the recent bursts on Oakham Road, and all of the inconvenience that caused for the local community, we made the decision to invest and replace the whole section of pipe, and we’re happy to say that the work has now begun.

“We’re going to be replacing the old, brittle pipes with brand new plastic pipes that are much more reliable, and the work has been planned in a way that gives the local community the least amount of inconvenience.   Our plan is to renew 700 metres of water pipes in total, and we expect that to take around two weeks.  Once the new pipe is in the ground, we’ll test it to make sure everything is in working order, and then we’ll transfer the water supply from the old pipe to the newly installed one.”

The work should have little impact on road users, however traffic lights will be used outside of peak times to make sure everyone stays safe.

Chris added: “We know that this work may mean a little bit more inconvenience for the local community, and we’d like to apologise to anyone who will be affected, and to ask for their patience once again.  Once this work is complete, the area will have a modern, reliable water network that will last for generations, and hopefully we won’t need to do any more work for a good while.”
