Severn Trent’s £1.5million project in Duckmanton is on track as teams move on to phase two

November 12th, 2025

Severn Trent has completed the first phase of a £1.5m project to replace water pipes in a Derbyshire village – securing supplies for future generations.

The works in Duckmanton have been taking place on the A632 Chesterfield Road and are on track to be completed by mid-December.

The busy road was initially closed to the west of Staveley Road and that part of the scheme is now completed, so will once again be accessible from the Chesterfield direction.

By the end of Friday, 14th November, Severn Trent teams will be moving onto the East side of Staveley Road to begin phase two of the works. The official diversion route will remain unchanged with lights at the Staveley Road junction in place.

Severn Trent has been keeping residents regularly up to date on the progress of the project, including local companies which remain open to business.

Signage is in place to advise drivers of the ongoing road closure section, which is needed to keep crews and members of the public safe.

Christina Massey, Community Communications Officer for Severn Trent, said: “We thank the community, including local businesses, for their patience and cooperation as we complete these vital improvements.

“For those who need to connect to a running bus service at Arkwright Community Centre or Duckmanton Miners Welfare, a taxi reimbursement scheme will remain available.

“As the new pipeline nears completion, two-way traffic lights will be introduced on the western section of Staveley Road while essential testing is carried out.

“Full details of this phase will be shared once confirmed.”
