Severn Trent’s Big Job Boost for Brum with hundreds of jobs available - and cheap bus travel

Friday 16th June 2023

Severn Trent, National Express West Midlands, NHS, Kier, Pertemps and more, are joining forces to create the ‘Big Boost for Brum’.

Hosted by Severn Trent at Birmingham City Football Ground on Monday 10 July 2023 from 9.30am to 3pm and free for anyone to attend, Severn Trent is connecting the people of Birmingham with some of the city’s biggest employers and the jobs and opportunities available.

As well as a jobs fair with hundreds of live jobs for people to apply for, the Midlands based company will also be providing free employability workshops running throughout the day, including cv writing, help to grow confidence as well as on the spot interview practice with virtual reality headsets.

National Express have provided discounted bus travel for anyone travelling by bus to the event, where there will also be teams from Severn Trent to offer advice on additional financial support available to anyone needing extra help paying their water bill.

The event forms part of Severn Trent’s ten-year programme that was launched in Birmingham last year, where it’s looking to support 100,000 people living in the Midlands out of water poverty, and into work.

Andy Street, Mayor of the West Midlands, said: “It’s great news that major businesses from right across our region have come together to share skills and expertise – opening up jobs and opportunities to local people in the very heart of their communities.

“Birmingham – just like the West Midlands as a whole – is full of talent and potential. When we work together with businesses and they can lead by example, we can change the lives of local people for the better – creating employment and prosperity in the months and years ahead.”

Neil Morrison, Severn Trent HR Director : “Our big jobs boost is the next step in our work in East Birmingham where we’ve been working in the community to help develop skills and confidence around work. Now, we’re looking forward to be able to bring the people we’ve been helping, along with anyone else who’d benefit, together with the jobs available, not just at Severn Trent, but from some of the city’s biggest employers. That said, we also know that it’s not a one size fits all approach with finding work and some people may not be quite ready to apply yet, which is why this jobs fair, is also going to have a learning zone for people to develop their employability skills and access to our experts.

The company will be working with councils, businesses and leaders in Birmingham to help drive change and provide as many opportunities for people living in Birmingham, and to help the city thrive as it bounces back post-pandemic and through cost-of-living challenges.

“Whatever anyone’s experience or ambition is, this event will have something that they can benefit from, and helps support our plans to get more people into work, and keep Birmingham thriving.”

Severn Trent last month also announced it was set to create over 1,000 jobs over the next two years, and is set to welcome 130 apprentices to the company later this year. It’s biggest ever intake.

The company also shared it’s taking on over 40 interns as part of the 10,000 black interns programme, designed to help provide opportunities and roles for underrepresented talent.

The event is free to attend, and available to walk in on the day, but to secure a spot and benefit from the discounted travel visit: https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/severn-trents-big-job-boost-for-brum-tickets-652805919077
