Severn Trent maintains lowest bills for 10 consecutive years and highlights environmental pledges
Midlands water and waste company Severn Trent has published its half-year results today (Thursday 21 November), highlighting a list of benefits for customers, communities and the environment.
At less than £1 a day, Severn Trent customers enjoy the lowest bills in England for their clean and waste water services. And bills are set to come down between 2020 and 2025, with a real 5% reduction in that time.
The company also announced big service improvements for customers:
- 25% reduction in water quality complaints since 2015;
- 50% reduction in external sewer flooding since 2015;
- Expected 40% reduction in supply interruptions year-on-year;
- On track to hit their leakage target for the eighth time in nine years; and
- Helping more customers than ever with their bills, with more than 50,000 people offered support.
Liv Garfield, Severn Trent Chief Executive, said:
“There aren’t many companies that have improved services while also promising bill reductions but, that’s what we’ve managed to do.
“Alongside that, we’ve also made a number of bold commitments to improve the environment, including signing up for the triple carbon pledge – achieving zero emissions, 100% renewable power and an all-electric fleet of vehicles by 2030, a full 20 years before the Government’s target.”
Other green pledges include reducing the use of single-use plastic through the Refill scheme, which creates free tap water refill points across towns and cities, helping to prevent the equivalent of four billion plastic bottles ending up in landfill by 2030. To date, there are now over 2000 Refill stations across the Severn Trent region where people can fill up their reusable water bottles for free.
Severn Trent will also be planting 1.3m new trees by 2030 – the equivalent of one tree for every three households it serves and it will have cleaned up 1,600km of rivers in its region by April 2020.
Severn Trent was recently named as a top three employer by the Social Mobility Index, which highlights the work the company has done to help people living in social mobility cold spots to not only get a job but also to get on with their career. And, just last week, it was also named in the top three in the Hampton Alexander Review, highlighting its gender equality.
