Severn Trent launches Refill project across Coventry

Thursday 30 August 2018

Severn Trent is teaming up with local businesses and the City Council to make sure the people of Coventry can enjoy wonderful water when they’re out and about.

The company is partnering with founding not for profit organisation City to Sea to rollout Refill stations across the city, where people can fill up reusable water bottles for free at participating local businesses.

The Refill project aims to promote free tap water, helping keep people hydrated, as well as bringing huge benefits for the environment by reducing the use of plastic bottles.

Liv Garfield, CEO at Severn Trent said: “We’re passionate about the environment at Severn Trent, and the Refill project is a brilliant way to help reduce unnecessary plastic waste, as well as encouraging people to keep healthy and hydrated by drinking tap water for free.

“We’ve had fantastic response from businesses signing up to the project on our launch day, and received plenty of support from Coventry City Council who are keen for even more businesses to sign up, and get behind this worthwhile project for the City.”

Coventry City Council Cabinet Member for Public Health and Sport, Cllr Kamran Caan, said: "I’m very pleased that we have officially launched the Refill project in Coventry. I’ve always had a vision to deliver directly to the people and I think Refill does just that.

“Not only is this something that will be of benefit to the environment, but there are also lots of health benefits including: promoting healthy hydration and contributing towards reducing obesity by cutting down on sugary drinks. This is a free way of keeping healthy when you’re out and about which I would encourage everybody to take advantage of.

“This is a great initiative, and  I do hope many more businesses  consider signing up to the project, allowing people of Coventry to enjoy the ease of refilling their bottles.”

The Refill project works by encouraging businesses to sign up to the App, where customers can see where they can fill up their water bottles for free in the city.

With the support from volunteers from Coventry City Council, and Zero Waste Coventry and Warwickshire the company has signed up local businesses around Coventry which are now proudly displaying the Refill logo, letting people know they can simply refill their water bottles for free inside.

More information on the nationwide Refill work is available at: www.refill.org.uk.

The Refill app can also be download for free on Google Play or the App Store and anyone wanting to get in touch, find out more about Refill or want to sign up, can do by emailing Refill@severntrent.co.uk.
