Severn Trent will begin essential work to upgrade the water network in the Forest Fields area of Nottingham next week. 

The water company is investing approximately £1.5m to install almost 6km of brand-new pipes across this part of the city, to help reduce the number of leaks and bursts. Laid end-to-end in a straight line, the new pipes would reach from Goose Fair to junction 26 of the M1.

Two teams of engineers will work at the same time throughout the project, to get the job done as quickly as possible, starting on Gladstone Street and Laurie Avenue from Monday 28th June. This major network upgrade is expected to take approximately nine months to complete.

To keep Severn Trent engineers and other road users safe, temporary traffic lights and road closures will be in place throughout the project, as the work progresses.

Helen Purdy from Severn Trent, said: “We know it’s still a challenging time for many people right now, but making sure our customers have a reliable water supply is as vital now as it’s ever been. That’s why you’ll see our teams working in the Forest Fields area to carry out these essential upgrades.

“The new pipes will save the equivalent of 200,000 cups of tea or 170,000 pints of beer a day!”

Helen added: “We’ll be doing everything we can to minimise the disruption and we’d like to thank everyone in advance for their patience as we get this essential work done. Once all of the work is complete, the area will have a modern and reliable water network that will last for generations.”
