Severn Trent is looking to draw in the crowds for a free family fun day in Worcester this week – including a children’s art competition.

The event takes place at The Hive on Thursday, August 6, from 10am to 3pm when visitors can learn all about the wonderful world of water through interactive activities, as well as scooping a cash prize for their own artwork.

Severn Trent teams will show families how water reaches their home in a 12hr journey from rain to top and how we are helping protect this precious resource for future generations. They will also show what we are doing to better protect rivers and habitats for wildlife, including otters, fish and birds.

An art competition called The Worcester Wave will be held for kids with a £50 top prize up for grabs for the winner – to be judged by a special VIP guest, Worcester Mayor Tor Pingree. Children will be encouraged to let their imagination flow and draw anything connected with the water journey, wildlife, rivers or even rainy days.  The winning artist can also do their bit for the community by choosing their favourite charity to receive a separate £200 award.

Kera Patch, Regional Communications Manager for Severn Trent, said the family fun day was also a big thank you to the local community, who had been widely consulted to avoid disruption during the huge investment programme. She said: “Whether you're a budding artist, a young explorer, or simply looking for a great day out during the summer holidays, there'll be plenty for families to see, do and enjoy at The Hive on Thursday.

“Come and get creative, ask questions, meet our friendly teams and learn something new about the environment on your doorstep. We'd love to see you there!”

The event is being held as a thank you to the local community as part of Severn Trent’s Built For Worcestershire scheme. Around £29m is being invested to boost and secure water and wastewater services in and around the Lower Broadheath area of Worcester for future generations – as well as improving river health. Projects included laying 16km of new water mains to reduce leaks while securing reliable supplies for thousands of homes, upgrading the water and waste network with 2,500 new homes planned and carrying out major upgrades at Worcester Sewage Treatment Works to boost capacity and reduce phosphates in the treatment process, to better protect the River Severn.
