Severn Trent helps celebrate Volunteers week!

Monday 3rd June 2019

This week is Volunteers Week (1-7 June), and Severn Trent is saying a big thank you to all its volunteers!

The FTSE 100 Company’s popular employee volunteering programme, Community Champions, helped plant 3,000 trees, clean over 14 kilometres of river and collect over hundreds and hundreds of bags of rubbish over the last year alone – all thanks to its people getting behind volunteering.

Now entering into its third year, the Community Champions has also helped raise record breaking amounts of money for Comic Relief and Children in Need by being one of the national call centres, and regularly supports it’s chosen charity, Water Aid.

Leanne Town, who runs the volunteering programme says, “Volunteering week is the perfect opportunity to say thank you to everyone who has got behind our Community Champions programme who helped make a real difference to the communities where we live and operate.

“In June alone, we’re aiming to have over 400 of our employees out and about working with our charity partners such as Waterside Care and the Canal and Rivers Trust – helping to bring real improvements to the local environment.”

As well as its own employees, volunteers help on a regular basis across its visitor sites, where local groups help carry out much needed conservation to the sites such as path building and nest building.

Earlier this year one of Severn Trent’s longest serving volunteers, David Bennett retired after 21 years of service at one of its visitor sites, Carsington Water.“

Without our volunteers, our visitor sites wouldn’t be the place they are today. Across all of our sites we’ve got teams of employees going out to volunteer, as well as regular local groups of volunteers who give up their time to help us across the sites.

“Our volunteers commitment to our visitor sites see many leading on leading on wildlife conservation projects and improving the site – all making the experience for our visitors that much more enjoyable.”

Whether it’s volunteering at one of its stunning visitor sites, supporting it’s chosen charities like Water Aid, or working with key partners to help make the region’s rivers even healthier. Severn Trent’s volunteers are helping to make a real difference.
