Severn Trent encourages households to check financial support available

Eligible customers across the Midlands could save up to £390 on their water bill, as Severn Trent encourages customers to explore what financial support is available.
The water company, which supplies water and wastewater services across the region, offers a wide range of support options to help customers manage their bills. These include discounts, debt support, payment breaks, smart meters and more.
Severn Trent’s bills are currently the second lowest in the country, and the company is in its first year of delivering a £15 billion investment by 2030– which is an investment of around £8 million a day.
This investment will bring new infrastructure, water sources, and thousands of jobs to the region, while keeping bills as low as possible.
Mark Grice, External Relationships Manager at Severn Trent, said: “January is always a good time for people to review their finances and make changes where they can, and your water bill is no different.
“People’s circumstances change, and it’s not one-size-fits-all – that’s why we have dedicated teams ready to support customers in a variety of ways, we can make sure you’re paying the right amount and offer help where needed.
“We want customers to know we offer discounts of up to £390 if eligible, help with paying off debt, and even provide white goods. We can install smart meters to help control water usage, offer payment breaks, flexible plans, and much more.”
By 2030, Severn Trent aims to provide financial support to around one in six households, through one of the most extensive support packages in the industry.
Customers can also benefit from the Priority Services Register (PSR), which offers tailored support for those with medical conditions, disabilities, or other needs. This includes services such as bottled water during supply interruptions, bills in alternative formats like braille or other languages, and account adjustments for specific medical requirements.
“So while we can help with your bill, we can also make small changes to your account or service to make life easier, giving customers one less thing to worry about,” Mark said.
Severn Trent’s financial support includes:
- Big Difference Scheme: Save up to £390 on your bill if your income is below £23,492.
- WaterSure: Cap your bills if you have a low income, a medical condition requiring water, or a large family.
- Debt Support: Get help paying off debt on your account, up to £20 a month.
- Water Direct: Pay your bill through benefits if you receive income support, jobseeker's allowance, universal credit, pension credit, or employment support allowance.
- Flexible Payment Plans: Spread out your payments to make them more manageable.
- Single Occupier Tariff: If you live alone and can't have a meter fitted, you may benefit from a lower tariff.

Severn Trent also encourages people who can, to go onto a smart meter. Installing a smart meter is one of the easiest ways to control your bill and pay for what you use.
