Severn Trent kicks off a £29 million investment in Birmingham this week, where it will be replacing water pipes across the city over the next four years.

The company will in total replace 170 km of pipes over a series of projects, making sure its network is in best condition providing Birmingham with a reliable water supply to serve the city for years to come.

Severn Trent will begin work this week in Handsworth, where its investing £2m replacing over 5km of pipes.

Timothy Ip from Severn Trent said: “This is a really exciting project for Birmingham, as we’re going to be completely upgrading the water network in parts across the city, to make sure our network is in the best possible condition.

“We know how important having a reliable supply is, so by replacing the older pipes with new ones, we’re massively reducing the risk of bursts or leaks happening and preventing issues for our customers.”

Severn Trent will begin its major investment in Birmingham in Handsworth this week, where it will be replacing water pipes on Laurel Road at the Oxhill Road junction, where teams will work their way towards Rookery Road.

Forkers will be carrying out work on behalf of the company, that is expected to take up to three months to complete.

“We always do everything we can to keep any disruption to a minimum, but we’re sorry in advance if this work does cause any inconvenience,” adds Tim. “To make sure everyone remains safe, there will be some traffic management in place, but we’ll be working as quickly as possible along Laurel Road to get the new pipes in as quickly as possible.

“Once this project is complete, we’ll then be moving to another part of the city where we’ll continue on this exciting investment, that will bring plenty of benefits to our customers and communities for many generations.”
