New emergency vehicle for Bridgenorth Community First Responders to celebrate 25 years
14 July 2025
A dedicated team of volunteers who have been at the heart of emergency response in Bridgnorth for almost 25 years are celebrating a major milestone with the arrival of a new emergency vehicle, thanks to a £10,000 grant from the Severn Trent Community Fund.
A group of eight volunteers, Bridgnorth Community First Responders (CFRs), give up their free time to attend 999 calls, providing vital care and support before an ambulance arrives. Trained by West Midlands Ambulance Service in advanced first aid, the team plays a crucial role in saving lives and supporting the NHS in their local community.
As the group marks its upcoming 25th anniversary, their decade-old response vehicle was nearing the end of its operational life. To ensure they could continue their vital work, the team applied to the Severn Trent Community Fund for support. In February, their application was approved by the Severn Trent Customer Panel, awarding them a £10,000 grant toward a new vehicle.
David Yates, Scheme chairman at Bridgenorth CFR said: "This new vehicle is a game-changer for us. It means we can continue to respond quickly and safely to emergencies across Bridgnorth, and we’re incredibly grateful to Severn Trent for their support"
In addition to responding to emergencies, the Bridgenorth CFRs are passionate about prevention and education. They regularly run CPR and defibrillator awareness sessions in schools, youth clubs, and village halls, equipping people of all ages with lifesaving skills.
Jade Gough, Community Fund Officer at Severn Trent, said: "We’re thrilled that the community fund’s panel selected Bridgenorth CFR to receive this essential grant which is helping towards the purchase of an emergency vehicle. The aware they’ve received is going to be supporting this worthwhile charity to help lives and support the NHS.
We’re proud to support such a dedicated group of volunteers who make a real difference in their community every day."
