What we're doing
Your supply pipe links your home to our water mains. It’s what brings fresh water to you every day.
The pipeline between our main water supply and your home or business is the responsibility of the property owner. A lot of homes, particularly those built before 1970, may have supply pipes made from lead. To replace them, it could cost you between £1,000 and £3,000.
We want to upgrade these older pipes with a new industry-standard 25mm plastic pipe, at no cost to you.
We are working with contracted partners to carry out this scheme on our behalf. They will be knocking doors in the area helping to complete water sampling, pipe inspections and upgrades.
Why we are doing it
To help protect customers who have lead pipes, water companies put a small amount of safe chemicals called phosphates into the supply. This coats the inside of your pipe and helps to prevent lead from reaching your water.
If we can remove lead from all properties fed from the Croxton borehole, we can stop phosphate dosing altogether, meaning a more sustainable future for our customers and our environment. We’re also future proofing our network, meaning just wonderful water for you for years to come.
