Surface water drainage test
Find out if water from your propert flows into the public sewer.
How to check your surface water drainage
This test helps you understand if surface water (such as rainwater) from any part of your property drains in to a public sewer. You would want to know this as you will have to pay a charge for this service.
Simply pour a glass or jug of water on the surface. If the water flows towards the road then this likely goes into our sewers, if it flows towards your house then it might not.
If you think you shouldn't be paying for surface water drainange charges then contact us to book a virtual technician appointment.

Take some time to check a few things
Do you have any of these drainage systems:
- Soakaways (these can take water to a balancing/attenuation pond)
- Rainwater harvesting system
- Eco drain If you're unsure, asking your neighbors can be helpful.
Check the slope of your driveway. Simply pour a glass or jug of water on the surface. If the water flows towards the road then this likely goes into our sewers, if it flows towards your house then it might not.
Finally, check your downpipes. These are the pipes that carry rainwater from your roof to the ground. Make sure they are sealed around the base to prevent leaks.
