Severn Trent to hold water saving drop-in session at University of Derby

Monday 31 October 2022

Severn Trent is holding a water-saving drop-in at the University of Derby, inviting students and customers to learn more about how water efficiency at home can lead to savings.

The drop-in is the latest in a series of events being run by the company to promote water efficiency around the home which can help to lower utility bills. Figures from Severn Trent and the Consumer Council for Water (CCW) show that a family of four on a water meter could save up to £1,300 a year just by making some small changes around the home.

The Severn Trent team will be at Derby University, Kedleston Rd, DE22 1GB from 1pm – 3.30 pm on Tuesday 1st November.

So far, the events – which have been running for four weeks at various locations around the city – have given over 2,000 people the opportunity to find out how they can make their homes more water efficient.

Anyone attending the drop-in can receive practical tips and guidance on reducing water use at home, and the kinds of free and subsidised products they can access.

Sophie Evans-Young, Water Efficiency Manager at Severn Trent, said: “With the risk from climate change bringing hotter, drier summers like the one we’ve just seen, it’s more important than ever that we're all thinking about ways to conserve water at home.

“This event gives us a fantastic opportunity to speak to the next generation and get them thinking about water as a precious resource, as well as the ways that they can save money on their utility bills.

“We really would encourage anyone who can make it along to these sessions to drop in, as they could be really surprised by the kind of simple changes that can help them to save on their utility bills.”

The Severn Trent team will also provide information on the financial support that customers can access if they’re struggling to pay their bill. This includes the £30 million support fund launched by the company earlier this year to support an extra 100,000 customers as the cost of living continues to rise.
