Severn Trent set to complete £1 million sewer infrastructure upgrade in Worksop

Tuesday 16 January 2024

Severn Trent is set to complete the final stretch of a £1 million project to improve the sewer infrastructure on Carlton Road in Worksop.

Engineers started work on the upgrade last summer after the road had experienced a number of sewer collapses since 2017. For the final 150m stretch, teams will line the pipe to further strengthen the network.

Teams will start work on 29 January, with the aim of finishing by the end of February.

Rebecca Ball, Community Communications Officer at Severn Trent, said: “We know from the previous sewer collapses isolated to Carlton Road, as well as hearing from customers, how important this work will be in the local area, which is why we will have invested over £1 million on this repair by the time we finish our work – we want to prevent further issues on this road.

“Our teams will be lining the sewer – essentially putting a pipe within the existing pipe. By repairing the pipe this way, it is less disruptive compared to replacing the entire pipe, and it also means we can complete the job quickly.

“We’d like to thank our customers and local businesses for their patience and understanding throughout this process, and it is our priority to complete this work as quickly and as safely as possible.”

To keep Severn Trent teams and other road users safe, Carlton Road will be closed just after Halfords to the junction of Eastgate. Businesses along this road will be open as usual and footpaths will remain open at all times.
