Severn Trent scoops top award at the Multicultural Apprenticeship Awards

20th October 2023

Severn Trent has gained national recognition at the Multicultural Apprenticeship Awards for its work and investment in nurturing talent through its apprentice scheme.

The water company scooped the top award in the Engineering & Manufacturing Employer of the Year category during the ceremony.

But there was cause for more celebration as from more than 400 nominations, two of Severn Trent’s apprentices were shortlisted and celebrated on the night.

Alisha Falknor was shortlisted for Management, Legal and Professional Apprentice of the Year and Dilraj Bharj also made the final shortlist for the Judges Choice Apprentice of the Year category.

The Multicultural Apprenticeship Awards aims to showcase talent and diversity within multicultural communities through the celebration of those working hard to overcome adversity to achieve their goals through apprenticeships.

They also highlight the achievements of apprentices and the contribution of employers and learning providers who have assisted them along their journey.

Jade Pearson, New Talent Lead at Severn Trent, said: “We are delighted to be recognised for the investment we make in our apprenticeships, the opportunities we continue to create for under-represented individuals across our communities and our passion to make Severn Trent a truly inclusive place to work. A huge thank you to everyone who helps to make our apprenticeship programmes so magical.”

Severn Trent recently welcomed 96 new apprentices into the mix, with its second biggest ever intake of new talent into the business. They have now been inducted to help them understand the business and met with people across the region before taking up their roles across 25 different programmes.

Severn Trent’s apprenticeships allow people the chance to learn and earn, and if they successfully pass, are guaranteed a job at the FTSE 100 company.

Currently, there’s more than 269 apprentices on their programmes at various stages, all working to bring new innovative ideas to the company and helping to deliver for its 8m customers.

The company is already recruiting for and getting ready to welcome the next intake of apprentices who will be joining in the New Year.
