Hazelwood pipe work finishes five weeks early

07 January 2016

Residents in the Over Lane area of Hazelwood in Derbyshire are benefiting from more than a mile of brand new water pipes a little earlier than planned, as we finished our work five weeks ahead of schedule.

ohn Springett, from Severn Trent, explains: “We’re pleased to say that we finished our work in Hazelwood earlier than planned. We had anticipated that all the work would be completed by the end of January, but good weather conditions and a real focus from the team to get the job done meant we finished in time for Christmas. This was great news because we were able to open Over Lane and get everything back to normal for local residents in time for the festive period. We’d like to thank everyone in the local community for their patience and support while we’ve been working in the area.”

Our contract partner, Laing O’Rourke, started the work back in October, and we've invested nearly £300,000 in the new pipes to make sure our customers’ taps and toilets keep working.

John added: “It was important that we did this work because as water pipes get old, they can become weaker, making them prone to leaks and bursts.  We wanted to make sure our customers’ water supply is always there when they need it, that’s why we laid the brand new water pipes. Now the area has a modern, reliable water network that will last for many years to come.”
