Helen Purdy, Community Communications Officer at Severn Trent, said: “As we’ve seen following the recent storms, surface water flooding can have a real impact on people, whether through concern over their property, or the inconvenience of not being able to get out to take children to school or get to work because of excess water on the roads.

“We know that there have been some instances of surface water flooding in Groby and we hope that this project will provide some peace of mind to residents. We also absolutely understand that roadworks can be frustrating and are committed to make sure these works are completed as quickly and safely as possible.”

The project will focus on two areas of Groby with the first set of works along Leicester Road, close to Dalby Drive/Marston Drive due to be completed by April 2024. Severn Trent will then return in the summer to work in the centre of the village near the junction with Ratby Road.

Severn Trent has worked closely with Leicestershire County Council on the plans for the project.

Councillor Ozzy O’Shea, County Councillor for Groby, Ratby and Field Head and Lead Member for Highways, Transportation and Flooding, said: “Over the past four years I have been working closely with STW and a number of local residents to seek a solution to the ongoing flooding problems in Groby. On behalf of all the residents in Groby, I am pleased that STW will commence their £1.8m Flood Alleviation Project this November.”
