Severn Trent to stage Coventry roadshow to tell public about £12.9bn plans, including 7,000 new jobs

1st November 2023

Severn Trent is going on tour with an open invite to all its customers to learn more about how a huge £12.9bn investment programme will benefit local communities - including the creation of 7,000 new jobs and £550m of financial support for customers.

Nearly 70,000 people from across the region helped shape the plan so that it delivers the outcomes customers care about most, and Severn Trent is now calling for more people to come along to hear more and have all their questions answered.

The first leg of the tour takes place at West Orchards shopping centre in Coventry on November 7 and 8, when Severn Trent staff will be on hand to talk about plans for the city and Warwickshire. They will also offer tips on how to protect homes as we head into winter as well as cost-of-living advice at the event, which runs from 9am to 5pm.

The ten-county customer roadshow will cover the whole region and every customer is welcome as the water company showcases its future plans, including guaranteeing a secure water supply for generations to come; ensuring storm overflows cause no harm to rivers; and customers continuing to receive a sector-leading service.

The Warwickshire investment plan also includes £65m being invested on flood protection for 320 homes in Finham. This will be aided by using nature-based Sustainable Drainage Solutions (SuDS), including rain gardens and retention ponds.

The company is also planning to invest £38.45m at eight of its sites to help the company reach net zero carbon emissions by 2030.

Severn Trent had recently announced a huge new programme of investment in its five-year business plan submission to Ofwat, including the creation of 7,000 new jobs for the region.

The company unveiled a new £550m package of financial support for customers, including a pledge to install money-saving smart water metres to a MILLION households. The proposals mean around 700,000 people will get help paying their bills - around one in seven customers.

The new investment programme, which runs from 2025 to 2030, will see Severn Trent upgrading pipes TWICE as fast, as well as doing even more to protect rivers and keep drinking water flowing for generations to come.

Other highlights include major investments in improving the wastewater treatment network, plus recruiting more River Rangers to continue to improve the health of our rivers and waterways.

The event for people across Coventry will also include winter advice for customers, including on pipe lagging, plus tips on saving water and energy around the home and Severn Trent’s free leak detection service. Free children’s books that provide a fun and informative twist on water-related subjects will also be handed out at our stall at the shopping centre, near to Costa.

The public can also learn more about Severn Trent’s Community Fund which has donated more than £750,000 to 36 projects in Coventry and Warwickshire since 2020.

David Cork, Community Engagement Manager at Severn Trent, said: “Severn Trent customers have helped shape our plans for the future, plans we want to showcase at the roadshows across our region.

“Customers are at the heart of everything we do, so we want people to come along and see how our plans will benefit the community and the environment for the next five years.

“The plans will see thousands of new jobs being created in our communities and there is also a huge financial package of support available to those who need help most.

“Coventry is our first stop on the tour but we plan to visit ten regions in the coming months so we can speak directly to our customers and answer any questions about the exciting plans they helped create.”
