We’re investing in Stoke's future

Severn Trent is investing £25million in Stoke-on-Trent as part of an ambitious multi-million pound scheme to replace ageing water pipes and provide the city with a more reliable water supply.

Work is set to begin on the delivery of a major project of upgrades to the water network in Stoke, modernising infrastructure and ensuring its resilience for the future.

Crews are set to start working to install approximately over 40 kilometres of new pipe in Stoke-on-Trent from April 1st, 2025, with the programme of works going ahead in the Hanley, Burslem and Sneyd Green areas.

The installation will be phased across the area and is planned to start with Milton Road, Berwick Road, Birches Head Road and Fairfax Street. The whole of the project is expected to be completed by April 2027.

Ahead of the work beginning, the team will be looking to meet with the local community and talk about the project.

We try to keep dust to a minimum, but it can happen during roadworks. Equipment and soil may be stored safely on site and removed regularly.

Once the work is done, a team will come to clean up and restore the area. We aim to leave your street as good as we found it.

We’re starting to move some customers from unmeasured bills to water meters. This is because the Environment Agency has classed the Severn Trent region as ‘Seriously water stressed’ – excluding Chester Zone. This means we need to take steps now to help protect our water supplies for the future.

Introducing measured billing supports this objective by:

•             Helping reduce unnecessary water waste

•             Encouraging more efficient and responsible water use

•             Giving customers greater awareness and control over their water consumption and bills

•             Providing a fairer charging method, where customers only pay for the water they use

Customers who have recently moved to measured billing were identified as likely to save money by switching to a meter. If your account was in credit, you’ll have received a refund as part of this change.
