A little about Foremark Reservoir

Foremark is nearby to Staunton Harold Reservoir and National Trust's Calke Abbey

Why was the reservoir created here?

The reservoir was built in the early 1970’s to support Leicester’s water demand.

What is the reservoirs role in the water supply network?

Foremark is a vital link in the water supply network for the East Midlands. From the bottom of the draw-off tower, the raw water, as it is called before cleaning, is pumped to Staunton Harold Reservoir four miles away for conversion into drinking water at Melbourne Treatment Works.

Wildlife at Foremark

Foremark's environment supports a rich diversity of wildlife with over 200 species of birds, 27 species of butterflies and 300 species of moths recorded on site.
