Why does my water smell/taste of chlorine?

Sometimes water may taste or smell like chlorine

Chlorine is used in water as a disinfectant to maintain a high level of water quality. If there has been a repair or improvement work in your area, chlorine levels may be increased to help with that.

You can help to resolve this issue by filling a jug of fresh water and keeping it in the fridge to let chlorine dissipate. There are no current UK regulatory limits for chlorine, but at Severn Trent Water we aim to keep the levels low enough to not change the taste or odour in your water, but still disinfect to the water supply.
