Is there fluoride in my water?

Fluoride is naturally present in all water supplies at varying levels

Fluoride is naturally present in all water supplies at varying levels. The natural background levels of most source waters in the UK is below 1 part per million (1 mg/l).

Fluoride is added to water in some areas at the request of local health authorities. The decision to add fluoride to drinking water is solely the responsibility of the health authorities and not Severn Trent Water. Fluoride is normally added as a diluted solution or as a powder. Special control systems make sure it does not exceed the maximum allowed level from European standards. The costs for this are not included in our water charges but are covered by the health authorities
