New start date for works in Slad Road, Stroud
The recent severe weather has forced Severn Trent to delay the start of a £540,000 scheme to help reduce problems with sewer flooding in Slad Road, Stroud.
The scheme was due to start on January 4th, but the wintery weather conditions meant preparatory work required on the diversion routes had to be delayed – and the company says work will now start on Wednesday, January 20th.
The scheme includes building a length of new storage sewer pipe as well as increasing the size of existing sewers, and when completed, will mean local residents will be less likely to experience problems with sewage flooding during storms.
“We’re sorry for the delay in starting the work, but we hope the local community will understand the reasons for the hold-up,” said Severn Trent.
In order to carry out the work as safely and as quickly as possible, it will be necessary to close Slad Road during the work, which will take around three months to complete.
For light local traffic that would normally be travelling from east to west along Slad Road, a diversion will track west along Lansdown and north along Gloucester Street. This will require the usual one-way traffic flow in a small section of Lansdown, and the whole length of Gloucester Street, to be reversed.
Traffic that would usually be travelling from west to east will be redirected along Folly Lane. This will require the temporary re-opening of the old Folly Lane junction with Beeches Green. Light vehicles will be able to travel from the southbound lane of Beeches Green up the re-opened junction onto Folly Lane. This section will be one way and right turns for northbound traffic on Beeches Green will be prohibited.
