Over 8 miles of pipework to be replaced in Chaddesden

Essential work to improve 40 year old, worn out water mains in the Chaddesden area of Derby will start next week.

The project costing just under £2m will see the replacement of over 8 miles of pipe work, and improve water supply to over a thousand customers.

The work is expected to take up to 11 months to complete and will be conducted by Severn Trent’s contractor Laing O’Rourke.

Nigel McGuiness, programme manager for Severn Trent said: “Our aim is to ensure we continue to provide customers with a reliable supply of drinking water and keep leaks to a minimum.

“We have set ourselves tough targets for cutting leakage over the next few years because we know customers see leaks as a waste and want more to be done to prevent them.

“Replacing older mains is a less disruptive and more cost effective way of making planned improvements to our network; far better than reacting to bursts as and when they occur.”

In order to carry out the work safely a temporary road closure may be required. We will do our best to keep disruption to a minimum and ensure access to homes and businesses remains unaffected.

Workers will be redirecting supplies to ensure disruption to customers is kept to a minimum.
